Asian Americans Advancing Justice is a national partnership of five organizations based in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Chicago and Atlanta. Our mission is to promote a fair and equitable society for all by working for civil and human rights and empowering Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and other underserved communities. We have a long history of working on national security issues, including the Korematsu coram nobis case proving that the government misrepresented facts to justify sending Japanese Americans to concentration camps during WWII. In addition, we called for justice for Dr. Wen Ho Lee during his unjust prosecution. Since the tragic events of 9/11 we have been working on creating transparency and accountability in the treatment of Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim and South Asian (AMEMSA) communities who have also been subjected to broad surveillance and racial profiling.

Founded in 1969 by a group of young activists, Chinese for Affirmative Action has a proud history of achieving social change. For over 40 years CAA has challenged social norms to advance equality, created coalitions that bridge traditional boundaries, and prioritized the needs of our community’s most marginalized members. CAA seeks to build and foster alliances that grow and sustain a progressive Asian and Pacific American movement. We believe affirmative action is necessary to intentionally combat all forms of discrimination and oppression.

Though our constituency encompasses the broader AAPI community, our grassroots work prioritizes the needs of low-income, immigrant, and limited English proficient (LEP) individuals. CAA advocates for programs, policies, and legislation to meet our communities’ needs, and to change or eliminate those that are harmful and discriminatory. Our core civil rights issues include language rights, immigrant rights, and racial justice.

Founded in 1972, the Chinese Progressive Association educates, organizes and empowers the low income and working class immigrant Chinese community in San Francisco to build collective power with other oppressed communities to demand better living and working conditions and justice for all people. CPA plays an active role in local, statewide, and national alliances to increase the civic engagement of working and immigrant families to build electoral power for social justice. In addition, CPA provides wrap-around services in youth leadership, workers rights training, and housing protections.
